Rehashed run 1820 - Michelle Neo

Rehashed Run No: 1820; Hare: Michelle Neo; Date: 17th November 2009; Venue: Durian Tunggal.

An Enjoyable Medium Run

Michelle Neo is a jovial hasher who has been with MH3 for the last few years. In spite of her busy work schedule, she always tried her best to find time to attend the weekly run.

Come last Tuesday, it was her turn as hare on rotation. In spite of the wet day, it had attracted a turnout of some 35 avid hashers.

Unlike what was stated in the monthly newsletter, its run site was at Durian Tunggal and not Kesang Pajak which had confused a few hashers. Among them was devoted runner ex GM Vibrator who looked frustrated for not being able to join the run on his late arrival after driving around in circle in Kesang Pajak which is some 10 km away. Hope he could sleep well.

It was a rainy day. Undeterred, itching for a good sweat-out, my partner and I arrived at the run site early. Very soon, we were joined by early bird Dr.Pandyarajah and co-hares Kacang Panjang, 4896 and Super 96 who had just completed setting the running trail with wet bodies.

It was at 5.25 pm that my partner and I started the run as early birds by following the paper which led south on a broad laterite road into an oil palm plantation. It then zigzagged abreast the outer fencing of a huge chicken farm, turned left eastward across a deep ditch into the compound of a few labourer quarters and went uphill beneath the high tension wire for some 35 minutes before hitting the first complicated check. Its connecting paper was found by me some 100 metres away on a path in a bushy rubber plantation on the right of the back trail after a spread-out search of some 10 minutes. As usual, as early birds, we did not join the paper.

The paper continued to meander through the bushy and undulating rubber plantation for another some 15 minutes before hitting the second simple check at a T-junction. Once again its connecting paper was found by me some 100 metres ahead a short while later after a spread-out search. It was then that we were being caught up and overtaken by avid scheduled runners Pramjit Singh and Utom Singh.

The paper then continued to proceed northward for some 10 minutes before hitting the third and last tough check at a Y-junction. By then we were being caught up by another 3 avid scheduled runners who were made up of Dr. Pandyarajah, Govind and Peter Loi. Its connecting paper was found by Dr. Pandyarajah a short while later on a bushy path in another rubber plantation some 100 metres away on the left of the back trail. From then on, it was another some 30-minutes trudge through the bushy and hilly rubber plantation, across another deep ditch and high tension wire before hitting the home trail and arriving back at the run site at 7.10 pm as last runners when the sky began to fall dark. On the way, we were being overtaken by Camel Lok, Horlick, Hawaii Goh, Nancy, SYT, Albert, GM Dennis the Menace and late starter Ranger.

It was an enjoyable medium run of some 7 km which was followed by a hash circle conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. As usual, it saw a number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at the nearby Win Huat Restaurant in Batu Bernam. In attendance were some 40 hashers. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace who looked happy in the absence of his other half, Carol the Twin Towers, who was away on holiday. It saw a big number of sinners being on-downed. It was followed by his announcement of our great success in organizing the recent grand 30th Hashloween Joint Run and his appreciation of our contributions. The dinner was partly subsidized by the hare. A big thanks. It ended at around 10.00 pm.

See you at the coming run of 4896 and Super 96 at Gapam, fellow hashers! You are cock sure to enjoy it.

On! On!

Rehashed run 1819 - Baby Elephant (Drugbuster)

Rehashed Run No: 1819; Hare: Doris Khoo a.k.a. Baby Elephant; Date: 10th November, 2009; Venue: Tehel.

Accompanying The Co-hare To Set A Short And Sweet Run

Doris Khoo is a jovial veteran hasher whom I have known since joining the MH3 in 1991. A walker rather than a runner, she used to attend the weekly run regularly come rain or shine.

As scheduled on rotation, it was her run on last Tuesday. As expected, it attracted the attendance of some 40 hashers in spite of the wet weather.

Tehel is a familiar friendly hashing run site on flat terrains covered with oil palm, rubber and fruit plantations situated some 20 km south of Malacca city. As appointed earlier, co-hare Killer Tony, Sexy Chan, my partner and I gathered at the run site by the side of the Bukit Katil - Bemban road at 4.00 pm. As usual and led by Killer Tony, we set out to lay the running trail without recce some 10 minutes later after equipping ourselves with shredded white papers, drinking water and a GPS and having a small discussion on its intended short running trail taking into consideration of the present early night fall.

The paper led east and northeast on a broad laterite road in an oil palm plantation for some 30 minutes before setting the first simple check at a T-junction. Its connecting paper was placed some 100 metres away down slope into a rubber and oil palm plantations for another some 20 minutes before arriving at a tarred road at Kampung Lubuk Besau where the second tricky check was placed beside an oil palm tree northward across a bridge towards Bukit Katil Its connecting paper was placed by the side of said tarred road some 150 metres away on the right of the back trail.

The paper continued to lead southward into an oil palm plantation abreast the said village full of mixed fruit trees for another some 10 minutes before the third and the last simple check was set beside an oil palm tree on the left of a T-junction. Its connecting paper was placed beside another oil palm tree on the right some100 metres away. From then on, it was another some 30 minutes meander westward through the oil palm plantation before arriving near a T-junction which hit the in-trail where we heard and saw a few early birds led by Albert coming from the opposite direction. The time then was 5.40 pm. For the purpose of avoiding them knowing the home trail, the 4 of us hid behind some bushes a short distance away. It was only at 6.15 pm that we continued with our paper setting which hit the in-trail after the scheduled runners who started their run at 6.00 pm had passed us. We arrived back at the run site at 6.25 pm after some 10 minutes walk.

It was a short and sweet run of some 6 km which was attended by some 40 hashers. The first scheduled runner was back at 6.45 pm. He was none other than Ranger who was closely followed by Dr. Pandyarajah and GM Dennis the Menace and Govind. The last runner who came back at 7.20 pm when the sky was dark was Carol the Twin Towers. She was accompanied by Dr.Linkun. Of course it was a great relief to her concerned partner GM Dennis the Menace who was seen with a smiling face.

Hash circle was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. As usual, it saw a number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at Hiking Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. A total of 4 tables were fully taken up. A delicious 6-course Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was held for the sinners who included the hare. The dinner was partly subsidized by the hare. A big thanks. It ended at around 10.30 pm when the crowd began to disperse.

See you at the coming run of Michelle Neo at Kesang Pajak, fellow hashers!

On! On!

Rehashed run 1819 - Baby Elephant (GM)

Hash Run 1819

Venue: Tehil
Hare: Baby Elephant
CoHares: Crazy Horse & Drug Buster

I arrived at the run-site at 5:50 to find about 30 cars lined up on the new road joining Tehil with Melaka and Bemban. The weather was fine for hashing, ie. it had been raining and the track was mudded up nicely. I had previously run at this site about 1 ½ years ago and was amazed at the growth which had occurred in the new palm field in that period.

As many of the hashers were wary of the rainy weather, combined with the two joint masters as co-hares, there were numerous early birds, whose cars were present with no hashers left on site.

Warm-ups were conducted by the GM and the main pack headed out promptly at 6 pm. Ranger was feeling especially spry and took off in rapid pursuit of the hares. The paper headed downhill into the new palm plantation following a reasonable lorry track. The 1st check was rather simple, and the trail was found by Ranger, leading into the rubber out of the oil palms along a faint tapper track. The GM joined the paper.

After about a KM the trail crossed a ditch and entered back into the oil palms. The next check was a bit trickier as the hares fainted downhill next to the paved road and left the check behind a palm tree. Eventually, Govind hollered On- On from up the hill away from the main road. Once again the GM joined the paper.. By this time, a good pack had formed, consisting of FRBs, early birds, and other runners. A lot of hashers were encouraging, including a still energetic Bombastic as I passed them heading up a hill and back across the barbed wire to another lorry track.

The lorry track eventually led to a tee junction, where some more Early birds indicated a 3rd check. Once again Ranger found the paper. In this case, Ranger could clearly be heard shouting ON ON at a loud and frequent cadence. It soon became apparent he was so boisterous due to the fact that Govind and the GM were only about 20 feet away from him, but there was an impassable chin link fence which allowed Ranger a 500 meter head start leaving the check.

At this point the paper poured out onto a paved road heading back towards Tehil. It was good to see early birds, Helen of Troy, Mrs. Hawaii, Hawaii, Bugsy Malone, ICI, etc.all enjoying the trail and the cool weather. I am not sure why Helen was wearing a diaper on the top of her head?

Leaving the pavement the trail began the loop back via. a nice combination of lorry track, virgin trail, and footpaths. The long hill back to the top via a repeat of the in-trail proved quite a challenge at the end of the run. Back at the vehicles, the FRB’s all congratulated the hare and co-hares on a good run and began drinking the cold tiger while waiting for the rest of the pack.

Twin Towers and Lincun finally emerged about 15 minutes after everyone else was back. Several queries to determine what they were doing did not gain any useful information, other than a claim they couldn’t find the paper???

The circle started at about 7: 15 with some typical sinners being iced, ie. Ranger with no shirt, Hendry for offering to schedule swimming lessons, King Rat from Orangutan Club was iced and thanked for sponsoring the Hashloween Tee-shirts. One guest from Klang, I can’t remember his hash-handle, was iced. It was good to hear the nice things he said about the recent Hashloween joint run. Twin Towers led the group in singing the Tuesday Hasher song and then was iced for flying off and leaving the GM lonely.

Next weeks hare, Michele, was represented by Long Bean, who announced the upcoming runsite at Ayung Hill. Directions: go past Durian Tungal Town, and then look for hash signs. The GM requested all members who support the upcoming Christmas run to pay their RM 50 to Doris, and also asked for help in setting up the event as Twin Towers will be MIA.

The Hare was iced and a good round of appreciation given to the hare and co-hares for a good run. The ON IN was announced at Melaka Raya, Restaurant Hiking, and the circle was closed.

The food was great and plentiful and the beers cold, with a spill over of members crowding into 4 tables. King Rat was toasted again for his tee shirts, and then Vibrator was thanked for doing a great job as MC and called up to say a few words. Several more on downs were called, with the GM coming out the worse for it. The hare sponsored two bottles per table and subsidized part of the food besides. All in all it was another great night of hashing See you next week..

Rehashed run 1818 - Twin Towers

Rehashed Run No: 1818; Hare: Carol Parker a.k.a.Twin Towers; Date: 3rd October, 2009; Venue: Durian Tunggal Reservoir.

A Unique Wet And Memorable Run

Twin Towers is an active hasher who joined the Malacca Hash House Harriers some 3 years ago when she first came to Malacca with GM Dennis the Menace. Since then, she has been running regularly without fail come rain or shine.

Come last Tuesday it was her turn as hare on rotation. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout who was looking forward for a good run.

Durian Tunggal is a popular hashing run site situated some 20 km east of Malacca city. It is covered with scenic oil palm, rubber and fruit plantations with undulating terrains and streams surrounding a reservoir which is ideal for hashing.

It was a cool and cloudy Tuesday afternoon. It started drizzling on my late arrival at the run site which is by the side of a reservoir at 6.05 pm after being caught in the traffic jam on the way when I saw a few runners starting their run. After parking my car at an open field and keeping its key in a key box, I started the run alone a few minutes later as a late starter by following the paper which led east on a bushy trail along the reservoir. A short distance away it turned left upslope into a rubber plantation where I met Bombastic making a back trail with a fellow hasher. Without bothering them, I continued to follow the paper down slope on a bushy path abreast the said reservoir westward. On the way near an oil palm plantation, I met Tongkat Ali who was coming from the opposite direction searching for connecting paper which was obscured by the rain and bushes. A short search led to its finding by me a short distance ahead. It continued to lead westward and northward on bushy path abreast the reservoir for some 15 minutes before going uphill into an oil palm plantation. It was then that I was over taken by late starter Ranger. A few minutes later while arriving at a cross junction, I met a pack of scheduled front-runners who were making a spread-out search at a check. Among them were Hawaii Goh and Camel Lok. I also joined them for the search which was quite a complicated one. Its connecting paper was only found by Camel Lok near an oil palm tree on top of the hill some 10 minutes later. By then, most of the other runners could not be seen as they might have opted for the short cut along the reservoir without following the paper. Only Camel Lok and me followed the paper which led to the north and meandered for some 15 minutes before arriving at a T-junction where we met the said SCBs led by Hawaii Goh exiting from the left. It then continued to proceed southward for another some 5 minutes before arriving at the northern bank of Durian Tunggal reservoir where we met GM Dennis the Menace and 2 fellow hashers standing by the side of a number of large inflated tyre tubes. To our surprise, each of us was given a said tube and asked to swim across the reservoir of some 300 metres to continue with our run. By then the sky had started to fall dark. We had no alternative but to accept it. It reminded me of my Pan Asia Hash 1999 run in Perth, Australia 10 years ago with ex GM Vibrator when he as a non swimmer was asked to swim across the Swan River with me with an inflated tyre tube at the end of the running trail. Although being advised to learn swimming in the water, he admitted that he has not done so to this day when he was caught in this run of the same type once again except specializing in swimming on the bed!

It took us some 10 minutes to swim across it. Among us were Theresa, Albert, Hawaii Goh and ICI Chee. We were being received on arrival by 3 fellow hashers led by Dr. Linkon with colourful lights. From then on, as I have lost my torch light while swimming, it was another some 10 minutes slow walk through the oil palm plantation in darkness before arriving back at the run site at 7.20 pm where a pack of front and non runners were enjoying their drinks.

It was a unique and most memorable run of some 7 km through the reservoir which took the co-hares GM Dennis the Menace and Pramjit Singh 3 times to recce and which I have ever experienced in my 18 years of hashing in Malacca. As time passed by, more runners trickled in. They included Vibrator and Speedy Gonzalez. The last runner was back at around 8.20 pm when the sky was pitch dark. He was none other than avid and determined hasher Tongkat Ali who lost his walking stick while crossing the reservoir. In appreciation of our participation in her run, we were each given a beautiful T-shirt by the hare.

Hash circle was jointly conducted by GM Dennis the Menace and ex GM Vibrator. As usual, it saw a number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed. Among them was the hare Twin Towers for her good effort in setting such a good run. It ended with a grand display of fireworks.

On On was held at Mopiko’s restaurant in Tiara Golf Club, Gapam. It was well attended by some 60 hungry hashers who were feted with a delicious steamboat dinner. Another on-downed session was held for a good number of sinners who included the hare and co-hares. The dinner was on the hare. A big Thanks!

See you at the coming run of Doris Khoo a.k.a. Baby Elephant in Tehel on 10th November, 2009!

A Grand and Memorable Malacca Hash Joint Run 2009

A GRAND AND MEMORABLE MALACCA HASH JOINT RUN 2009

Malacca is a hashing paradise with 8 active hash chapters. Except Malacca Full Moon Hash which runs once a month on the 15th day of Chinese lunar month, the rest run once a week on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For the purpose of enhancing their friendship and sharing their joy, they have since 1980 organized a yearly joint run starting with 4 hash chapters which were later increased to the present 8 hash chapters.

Come last 31st October, it was its 30th joint run which coincided with the auspicious Halloween Day. It was organized by Malacca Hash House Harriers on rotation. As the mother hash of Malacca Hashes which was founded on 13th May, 1975, it took the opportunity to organize a grand and memorable run which was named as Malacca Hashloween Joint Run 2009. It was held at the Orna Golf Resort, Gapam which is some 20 km east of Malacca City.

It was a cloudy day after an early morning downpour. As members of the organizing committee headed by GM Dennis the Menace, we arrived at the run site early to set up the registration centre and its run which consisted of a long run of some 11 km and a short run of some 9 km in the surrounding vicinity of Gapam.

The registration of some 330 hashers who included a few guests from Miri, Kuala Lumpur, Perth and Pattaya started at 3.00 pm. Among them were Websitekang, Ali Baba, Ali Bibi, Mary, Loy, 4896, Super 96, Rasputin, Tikus, James Bond, Gary, Mopiko, Ikan, Botak Chin and Lim Tian Han. Each of them was given a Mamee freebies bag containing a beautiful black T-shirt, tidbits, 2 beer glasses, a toothpaste, a hashing badge and a wrist tag. Light snacks such as curry pulp and kueh kuci, and free-flowing Tiger beer and mineral water were provided.

It was at 4.35 pm that the long run was flagged off at the compound of Orna Golf Resort by GM Dennis the Menace. As it was drizzling then, it attracted a small participation of some 50 avid hashers. It was followed by the short run some 10 minutes later which was participated by some 20 avid hashers. As organizer with loads of work to be done, most of the MH3 members did not take part in the run except a few sweepers led by Ranger.

The run led north out of the Orna Golf Resort on the tarred road for a short distance and turned right eastward into an abandoned banana plantation and southward into an oil palm plantation before crossing a chest-deep river towards Kampung Tehel. It continued to meander through the undulating terrains of bushes, oil palm and fruit plantations for a while before making a U-turn back to the run site from the right. The short run followed the same trail before making a U-turn half way through. For the purpose slowing down the front-runners, a few checks were set on the way.

It was quite a challenging run. The first runner was back at around 6.10 pm closely followed by the second runner. They were none other than Baba of Sunday Hash and guest Gary of Mamee. The last runners were back at around 7.15 pm when the sky was pitch dark.

Hash circle was conducted jointly by GM Dennis the Menace, ex GM Vibrator and ex GM Bombastic. As usual, it saw a number of sinners who included the front-runner being put on ice and on-downed. It ended with the display of fireworks.

On On was held at the Orna Restaurant which was beautifully decorated in Halloween style. It was well attended by some 330 hungry hashers in various Halloween make-ups and dresses. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with free-flowing beer. Dances were performed, beer drinking competition and on-downed sessions were held. Dancers took to the floor to dance wildly to the tune of music from the live band. Lucky draws were also held with a number of presents which included air tickets and hampers.

It was a grandest and most memorable joint hash run ever being organized in Malacca. It ended at around mid night when we left with full stomach, smiling face and fond memory. A big thanks to the freebies sponsors such as Mamee and a big salute and thanks to the organizing committee for the job well done. Keep it up.

See you at the coming 31st Joint Run 2010 which will be organized by Orang Utan Hash!

Rehashed run 1817 - Deepavali

Run # 1817
27-10-09
Venue: Hang Jebat Stadium
Depavali Run 2009
Hares: Indian Tribe

The run started promptly at 6 and the GM led the pack out for the first 2 km along the palm road. At which point his shoes hurt his tender feet and he fell back to walk with Twin Towers, who sacrificed her socks for his comfort. Hence there is no description of the checks past number 1, as they were joined before his arrival. It should be noted here that only Utom, Gopal, and Padirajah were representing MIC.

The first check stopped at the top of a palm track, with the trail eventually found, heading back down hill to the main road. At this point Drug Buster and Wonder Woman were passed and never seen again as they SCB’d. After crossing the river bridge and up the main road, the trail jumped over to a newly planted palm field and up the hill. After crossing the ditch, the trail meandered through the shiggy, onto a gated road, which had to be climbed over, and headed towards Krubong.

Big Hendry was trailing, with Big Banana as his good Samaritan escort. As back enders we followed along in the dark, wandering through the city streets, before meeting Dr. Iqbal at the water. Eventually the trail down to the bridge was found and we snaked our way through the shiggy and backfill piles to the run site.
Arriving at the beer wagon around 8 pm we were soundly welcomed by happy hashers. A quick phone call confirmed that Big Banana was successfully carrying Hendry back to the runsite so the circle was started.

As the time was late, it was a short circle, with the GM punishing a few measly sinners; including Ranger as the FRB, Twin Towers as next week’s hare, and then the hares were congratulated for a challenging run.

The On In was held at Sunshine Bar in Melaka Raya. A DJ, excellent Indian food, and cold beer were available for all to enjoy. Other Sunshine patrons got out their cameras to take pictures of the on downs. It should be noted the GM fell in the water, indicating a lack of sobriety. The night closed with all in good spirits and awaiting the events leading up to the Hashloween Run.

Rehashed Run No: 1816; Hare: Marion Chung (Sleeping Beauty); Date: 20th October, 2009; Venue: Taman Bertam Setia, Bertam Ulu.

Accompanying The Hare To Set A Memorable Run

It was another sunny Tuesday afternoon which was the running day of MH3. As arranged a couple of weeks earlier, my partner and I arrived at the popular run site early where we met the hare Sleeping Beauty in the company of Sharp Shooter Robert and co-hare Hawaii Goh. After putting up the direction sign, parking our cars, having a small discussion on its intended running trail and equipping ourselves with shredded white papers, 2 knives and drinking water, we set out to lay the paper without recce at 1.15 pm.

Led by co-hare Hawaii Goh who intended to follow the same running trail which he had set before for the other hash run with slight changes, the paper led north across the Taman Bertam Setia housing estate into a matured oil palm plantation, an orchard and another oil palm plantation for some 30 minutes before setting the first simple check at a T-junction. Its connecting paper was placed some 100 metres ahead on the left.

The paper continued to lead forward through the undulating terrains in the oil palm plantation, upslope across a deep ditch to the top of an open hill where we could see the surrounding beautiful scenery and downhill for a short distance some 50 minutes later before setting the second simple check at another T-junction. Its connecting paper was placed on a bushy path some 50 metres away on the right after removing the old paper trail of a recent run which led forward downhill

The paper then continued to cross a ditch downhill into a bushy path, uphill across a bushy rubber plantation and downhill into another oil palm plantation where it zigzagged left, right and centre for another some 1 hour and 10 minutes before crossing a worn-out wooden bridge for a short distance where the third and last simple check was placed at a cross junction. Its connecting paper was placed some 50 metres ahead beside an oil palm tree which led to the home trail. For the purpose of avoiding confusion, some old papers of a previous run on the left of the junction were picked up which made its trail disconnected.

From then on, it was another some 20-minutes tracking southward through the oil palm plantation and the in-trail before arriving back at the run site at 4.10 pm where there was still no sight of any early bird. We then left to our respective homes for bath and short rest.

It was a medium run of some 8 km across 2 moderate hills which took us some 2 hours and 55 minutes to set. A few parts of its trail overlapped the recent running trail of other hashing chapter. In order to avoid its confusion, more new papers were placed on the old trail and the old papers were picked up from the surroundings of second and third simple checks.

On our arrival back to the run site from homes at 6.35 pm, we met scheduled runners Speedy Gonzales and Kacang Panjang who had completed their run after starting it at 6.00 pm. From their description of the running trail, we gathered that they had followed the wrong trail back from the second check which is shorter. This also applied to a few other runners. Among them was Camel Lok who exited from the nearby Taman Bertam Impian housing estate at 7.30 pm when he was picked up by Hawaii Goh with his vehicle.

The first on-trail runner was back at 7.05 pm. He was none other than energetic Dr. Pandyarajah. He was followed by Govind, Gopal, 4896, Super 96 and Ranger who followed the wrong trail. The last runners who exited at 8.15 pm when the sky was pitch dark when we were about to conduct a search were veteran hashers Pecker, Holy and Helen of Troy. In spite of their late exit after following the wrong trail, they were seen smiling broadly. Only God knows why! This reminded me of an incident in the mid 1990s when veteran hasher Uncle Fun was lost at the run site of Gangsa with 2 harriets and only exited the next morning with smiling face after an intensive search by both fellow hashers and police had failed to find them. Understandably, most harriers like GM Dennis the Menace, Ex GM Cocker, Ex GM Vibrator and Ex GM Bombastic will agree with me that we would not mind getting lost and spending the night in the jungle with harriets like Baby Elephant and Chickadee. Ha..ha..ha!

In the absence of GM Dennis the Menace, hash circle was conducted by Ex GM Cocker. Besides making a few hashing announcements, it saw a number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at the nearby Soon Feng Restaurant in Cheng. In attendance were some 36 hungry hashers who were feted with a 6-course delicious Chinese dinner which was partly subsidized by the hare. Another on-downed session was held for a good number of sinners before we called it a night at around 10.30 pm. Thanks hare for the good run and dinner.

See you at the coming Deepavali Run of Indian Connection at Hang Jebat Stadium!

Rehashed Run No: 1815; Hare: Govind; Date: 13th October, 2009; Venue: Durian Tunggal.

A Complicated Swampy And Hilly Run

Govind is a known energetic front-runner. Come last Tuesday it was his turn as hare which was announced in the previous run. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout.

As usual, on our early arrival at this seldom-patronized run site in front of Auyin Hill, only the hare’s car and his co-hare’s motorcycle were seen there. We were later told that they had left to set the running trail at 4.00 pm after conducting a recce.

Like previously, as slow runners who looked forward for a good sweat-out, my partner and I started the run as early birds at 5.30 pm soon after the arrival of ever-industrious On Cash Horlick.

The paper led south along a tarred road for some 200 metres before turning left into a long stretch of swampy bush which made our walk difficult and took us some 15 minutes to cross. The paper then turned left uphill into a rubber plantation which took us another some 20 minutes to reach its top and into a bush where it hit its first complicated check. After some 10-minute spread-out search, its connecting paper was found by me some 100 metres away downhill in the rubber plantation on the left. As usual, as early birds, we did not join the paper.

The paper then went downhill for a short distance before turning right to a tarred road which is some 1 km away from the in-trail and run site on the left. However, for the purpose of dragging the running trail longer, it turned right upslope for a short distance and down-slope for another short distance into a drain before going uphill into a bushy rubber plantation. As my partner was feeling a sudden pain on her leg, we decided not to continue with the run by making a back trail. On the way at the said tarred road, we met a big pack of SCB led by Bombastic who did not follow the paper through the swamp coming from the opposite direction to continue their run. However, some of them follow us by taking the back trail after sensing that it would be going to be a tough run. On our way back some 200 metres away from the run site, we met the hare Govind and his co-hare Ambah exiting from the rubber plantation on the right with a big bag of shredded papers each after setting the run. They were covered with mud and sweat. We were told that the run covered a mixture of swamp, 3 hills and several streams. We arrived back at the run site at 6.30 pm where a few non-runners were banging their balls while waiting for the beer wagon to arrive. Later we were joined by our long-lost website master Websitekang who was taking a holiday trip back to Malacca. He still looked as fit and jovial as before. Keep it up.

It was a medium run of mixed terrains which took them some 2 over hours to set as told by the hare. Owing to its toughness and complication, a number of runners did not complete the run by taking shortcut and returned to the run site from various directions. The last runners were back at around 7.30 pm when the sky began to fall dark.

Hash circle was well attended. It was jointly conducted by GM Dennis the Menace and Ex-GM Cocker. Several invitation runs were announced by them. Among them were the Batu Pahat Hash run, Penang Hash run and Haadyai Songkran run. Those interested to join them were advised to register early. Besides, an on-down session was also held. It saw a good number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed. They included Ranger and ever-industrious Websitekang.

On On was held at Lai Dai Restaurant in Ayer Keroh Heights. In attendance were some 40 hashers. Delicious Chinese dinner was served with some donated beer. It was followed by another on-downed session which saw another big number of sinners being on-downed. The food was on the hare. A big thanks. It ended at around 10.30 pm.

See you at the coming run of Marion Chung a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty at Bertam Ulu!

An Enjoyable Medium Run

Gapam is a popular hashing run site situated some 20 km east of Malacca city. As told by professional co-hare Kacang Panjang during our last Sunday run with Malacca Sunday Hash House Harriers And Harriets (MSH4), my partner and I arrived at the same run site early after picking up Sexy Chan. Not surprisingly, only 2 cars belonging to the hare and his co-hare were seen there. Understandably, they must have left earlier to set the running trail which we were told would be similar to the last MSH4 run 2 days ago which was a long run of some 10 km which took us 2 ½ hours to complete.

As usual, as oldies and slow runners who did not want to be left behind and get lost, my partner and I started the run at 5.15 pm leaving behind Sexy Chan who wanted to wait for Killer Tony. The paper headed northeast on a laterite road into a bushy secondary jungle for some 20 minutes before arriving at an oil palm plantation where it turned right at a T-junction. Knowing that it would lead to the first check similar to the last run, we did not follow it but went straight northward where we found its connecting paper some 100 metres ahead.

The paper continued to proceed northward in the oil palm plantation for another 10 minutes before hitting the second check on the right of the second T-junction. Similar to the previous check, we did not conduct a spread-out search but proceeded straight northward where we found its connecting paper another some 100 metres ahead.

The paper then continued to proceed northward through the underpass of the North – South Express Way for another some 20 minutes before hitting the third similar check at another T-junction at the end of the said oil palm plantation and Bemban – Kesang Road. Similar to the previous check, we did not conduct a spread-out search again but turned left for a few metres along the said road and then turned left again southward into the said oil palm plantation for some 200 metres where we found its connecting paper.

The paper continued to lead southward similar to the previous run for another some 15 minutes before hitting the fourth and last changed check at a cross junction. Thinking that its connecting paper was similarly placed with the previous run, we headed straight westward. After walking for some 200 metres without finding it, we conducted a spread-out search. It was only some 10 minutes later that we were guided to it after meeting SCB Pramjit Singh, Horlick and Killer Tony coming on-trail from the opposite direction. From then on, it was another some 40-minute stroll southward meandering through the rubber plantation, across a small stream, the underpass of North – South Express Way and a bushy shrub on a long stretch of an abandoned tarred road before arriving back at the run site at 7.10 pm when the sky began to fall dark and a number of SCB and non runners were socializing and enjoying their drinks. Among them was non-runner GM Dennis the Menace who arrived late after work. He looked worry after failing to see his beloved partner, Carol the Twin Towers, around. Luckily she exited a little while later together with a few last runners which made him smiling broadly.

It was an enjoyable medium run of some 8 km through flat terrains. The first scheduled runner Alistair was back at 7.10 pm followed by a few last runners some 20 minutes later when the sky began to fall dark.

A short and sweet hash circle was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. It saw a few sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at the Hiking Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. It was attended by some 40 hashers who included a few guests. A delicious Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was conducted for a number of sinners who included the hare and the guests. The dinner was on the hare. Thanks.

An Unexpected Tricky Run

Padang Temu is a familiar hashing run site a short distance away south of Malacca city. Its run sites and runs are always placed and confined to the coastal section on the right of the Ujong Pasir – Kandang Road. However, it was of exception during the last week’s run. Its run site was placed at Taman Pertam Jaya new housing estate on the left of the said road and its run crisscrossed it to the coastal section.

It was a cool afternoon. As usual, as oldies who were looking forward for a good sweat-out, my partner and I arrived at the new run site early after spending some time to locate it. Not surprisingly, only one guest runner Ikan was seen there. Very soon, we were joined by Kiasu Lee and Helen of Troy. Without further delay, the 4 of us started our run as early birds at 5.30 pm.

The paper led north and west across the said busy Ujong Pasir – Kandang Road to the coastal section on tarred road where a number of anglers were fishing at the seaside. They were curious to see us in colourful hashing dresses walking for nothing. Whilst there, we met Cocker who was driving and searching the run site of which we gave him the guide. The paper then turned south along the open coast for a short distance before turning left eastward along the Duyong River and across a wooden bridge towards a kampong house on the left after some 45 minutes before hitting the first simple false trail. A spread-out search led Kiasu Lee finding its connecting paper some 100 metres away along the said river on the left of the back trail. As usual, as early birds, we did not join the paper.

The paper continued to lead eastward along the said river where a number of fishermen were unloading their catch from the boats for another some 15 minutes before hitting the second and last simple false trail across a bridge along the Ujong Pasir - Kandang Road. It was then that we were being caught up by scheduled FRB Govind, 4896, Super 96 and Ku Kah. Another spread-out search led to the finding of its connecting paper across the said road a short distance away on the back trail.

From then on, it was another some one-hour walk eastward across a village, northward along the busy AMJ Highway, westward across another village where the SPCA is situated and across a muddy paddy field before arriving back at the run site where a pack of some 20 runners and non runners who included the hare James, co-hare Sharp Shooter Robert Choe, On Sec. Chickadee, On Cash Holick, John Marshall, Mary Josephine, Janet, Killer Tony, Sexy Chan, Pramjit Singh and Edarjit Kaur were enjoying their drinks.

It was a tricky run of some 7 km on flat terrains along the seacoast and river, across a few the villages, three busy motorways and a muddy paddy field. The last runners were back at around 8.00 pm when then sky were dark. They were late starters Vibrator, Cocker and Dr. Linkun.

On On was held at the Hiking Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. It was attended by some 40 hashers. Delicious Chinese dinner was served and on-downed session was held for the sinners who included the hare and co-hare. The dinner was partly subsidized by the hare. Thanks.

See you at the coming run of Simon Cheong at Gapam

Accompanying The Hare To Set His Birthday Run

Time flies. Just a twinkling of an eye, a year has passed since ex-GM Cocker celebrated his last memorable 55th birthday run No.1759 on 9th September, 2008. And it is of no exception this year. Come yesterday, he has celebrated his 56th birthday by setting another memorable run. And as expected, it has attracted a big turnout of some 60 avid hashers who included 18 guests from other hashing chapters. Among them were James Bond, Tikus, Mary Chong and partner Loi, Andy and KY.

It was a fine and cooling Tuesday afternoon. As invited, my partner and I arrived early at the run site which was situated in front of Tiara Golf Club, Gapam where we met Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony after picking up Sexy Chan. Soon after putting up the signboard and equipping ourselves with 2 GPSs, 2 walkie-talkies, stacks of shredded white papers, 3 knives, mobile phones, drinking water and torch lights, we set out to lay the running trail at 3.15 pm led by Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony. The trail led east along the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road for a short distance before turning left northward and upslope into a banana plantation. After some 10 minutes’ walk, the first simple check was set at a T-junction and the first complicated false trail was set a short distance away on the right. Its connecting paper was placed a short distance away on the left of the first check. Understandably, they were set to catch and slow down the FRB (Front Running Bastard) such as GM Dennis the Menace, Ranger, Dr. Pandyarajah, Speedy Gonzales and Govind to be with the slow runners and oldies like my partner and I. What a good idea!

The trail then continued to lead northward in the banana plantation abreast the outer fencing of Tiara Golf Club for some 20 minutes before the second check was placed at another T-junction at its fringe and its second false trail was placed a short distance away eastward abreast a rubber plantation. Similar to the first check and false trail, its connecting paper was placed a short distance away ahead and northward of the second check in a rubber plantation.

The trail then continued to lead northward in the bushy rubber plantation abreast the outer fencing of the said golf club for some 15 minutes before turning right and zigzagging left right and centre across a couple of ditches for another some 1 hour where another 3 more complicated checks and 2 false trails were set before exiting southward into another banana plantation where the 6th and the last check was set at a T-junction. Its connection paper was placed a short distance away on the right. From then on, it was another some 30 minutes zigzagging through the banana plantation and water-melon farm before arriving at the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road at 5.45 pm where we took a rest to avoid sitting on ice for appearing at the run site before the run started at 6.00 pm. On the way, we met 4 early birds starting their run from the back trail. They were none other then Garfield, Bombastic, Band Boy and Dr. Linkun. We arrived back at the run site at 6.15 pm when the last runner ex-GM Vibrator started his run.

It was a quite a tricky and challenging run of some 9 km which took the hare ex-GM Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony some 2 ½ hours to set without reccee. It took the first runner Ranger some 1 hour to complete closely followed by Dr. Pandyarajah, guest runner Tay, GM Dennis the Menace, Speedy Gonzales, guest runner KY, 4896 and partner Super 96. As time passed by, more runners trickled in. Among them were Vibrator, Chickadee, Albert, Mary Josephine, Helen, Holy, Capt. Tay, Hawaii Goh and Nancy. The last runner who arrived back at 8.15 pm when the sky was dark was Henry accompanied by kind-hearted avid runner Ku Kah. What a great relief to GM Dennis the Menace, as he could not afford to loose the good service of Henry if he is lost!

A short-and-sweet hash circle attended by a small pack of runners was conducted by the ever-industrious GM Dennis the Menace. It saw a few sinners who included the hare and his co-hare being put on-ice and on-downed. It was then announced that the coming week’s hare would be Gracie with its run site at Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road. See you there, fellow hashers!

On On was held at the downtown Hiking Restaurant in Melaka Raya. It was well attended with 5 tables fully occupied. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with 2 bottles of Tiger beer for each table. To add more fun, songs were sang and on-downed sessions were held for the sinners. In addition, a huge birthday cake was presented to the hare and a few other hashers who were born in the month of September. It ended at around 10.30 pm.

It was a good birthday celebration run with good dinner which was on the hare. Thanks and Happy Birthday, Cocker!

On! On!
