Rehashed run 1841 - Speedy Gonzales: 13/04/10

Rehashed Run No: 1841; Hare: Yusso Bahim a.k.a. Speedy Gonzales; Date: 13th April, 2010; Venue: Bertam Ulu.

An Enjoyable Torch Light Run

Speedy Gonzales is a known active and creative hasher who has been running with MH3 since a few years ago. As scheduled on rotation, it was his turn as hare last week. However, instead of setting a normal daylight run which starts at 6.00 pm, he changed it to torchlight run which started at 7.30 pm when the sky was dark which is seldom being practised. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout of some 40 anxious hashers who included a few guests.

Bertam Ulu is one of the favourite hashing run sites covered with green vegetation on moderate terrain in Malacca. On my early arrival at the run site which was situated in front of Taman Sri Bertam housing estate by the side of Air Keroh – Sungai Udang Highway with my partner, there was already a big pack of enthusiastic hashers who were preparing and looking forward for an unusual run. Among them were Horlicks, Carol the Twin Towers, Henry, Kiasu Lee, Kukah, Gobal, Pramjit Singh, Edarjit Kaur, Utom Singh, Rubbish Bui, ICI Chee, Hawaii Goh, Nancy, SYT, 4896, Super 96, Dr. Linkun, Vibrator, Ranger, Joseph Botak, Sleeping Beauty, Sharp Shooter Robert and the hare who had completed setting running trail earlier with his co-hare Kotehbawahkuichi from Japan.

It was a cool and dark Tuesday night. Equipped with various types of torch light and after a small briefing by the hare on the type of paper to follow, the run was started off at 7.30 pm by following the paper which led left eastward on a bushy path abreast the said highway. As it was dark and bushy through the secondary jungle, it offered us no opportunity to run except walking with the use of various types of torchlight. It was only some 30 minutes later that the paper turned right southward after crossing the Bukit Rambai – Bertam Ulu Road. It then meandered through another secondary jungle on bushy path, across a drain and turned right westward across the said Bukit Rambai – Bertam Ulu Road again for another some 15 minutes. From then on, it was another some 40 minutes’ trudge through the long stretch of bushy path beneath the high tension cable, across an oil palm plantation in Ayer Salak, 2 drains and another long stretch of bushy path before arriving back at the run site at 8.55 pm. We were among a pack of last runners who were made up of late starter GM Dennis the Menace, Carol the Twin Towers, On Sec. Chickadee and 2 Mat Salleh guests. On the way, GM Dennis the Menace was seen attending to an exhausted Mat Salleh guest who was lying by the side of a drain.

It was an enjoyable torchlight run of some 5 km which was only being set occasionally. In appreciation of our participation, we were each given a beautiful cowboy hat by the hare.

Hash circle was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. However, as my partner and I opted to leave for our nearby home for an early shower, we did not attend it. Understandably, a number of sinners would be put on ice and on-downed.

On In was held at the nearby Sin Haw Restaurant in Cheng. It was well attended by some 40 hungry hashers. A delicious Chinese dinner was served with drinks. Another on-downed session was held for the sinners. It was then announced by GM Dennis the Menace that he and Carol the Twin Towers would be leaving us for Texas, USA for good on 26th April, 2010. In appreciation of our fellowship, they would be setting their last joint run for us on 24th April, 2010. So make sure you attend it, fellow hashers! The dinner was on the hare. Thanks. It ended at around 12.00 mid-night.

See you at the coming run of GM Dennis the Menace and Carol the Twin Towers at Gapam, fellow hashers!

On! On!
