Rehashed run 1850 - 15/06/10 - 10 km run

Rehashed Run No: 1850; Hare: Mismanagement Committee; Date: 15th June, 2010; Venue: Krubong.

An Enjoyable 10 Km Road Run

Ten Km Road Run is an annual event of Malacca Hash House Harriers. It is normally set on the road without checks and false trails. Its main object is to test the fitness of hashers who are always being misconstrued as beer drinkers with running problem.

Come yesterday it was its 10 km road run for the year 2010 at Krubong which is some 15 km north-east of Malacca city. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout of some 40 hashers who included 2 guests.

It was a cool and sunny Tuesday afternoon. Looking forward for a good sweat-out, my partner and I arrived at the run-site which is situated at the IOI Oil Palm Plantation at 5.30 pm. Several earlier birds were seen there. They included Dr. Pandyarajah, Sharp Shooter Robert, Water Liu-Liu, Soh, Gobal and his partner. As time passed by, more hashers trickled in. Among them were Albert, Horlicks, Kiasu Lee, Dr. Linkun, Chickadee, ICI Chee, Simon Cheong, Rubbish Bui, Bombastic, Orang Kaya Ngoh, Sweetie Pie, Khoo Ka, Tikus, Camel Lok, Nanda, Hawaii Goh, Nancy, Peter Loi, Govind, Pramjit Singh, Edarjit Kaur, Utom Singh, Amba, Ranger, Tongkat Ali, Gary, Speedy Gonzales, Shintaro, Killer Tony, Sexy Chan and Baby Elephant. While preparing ourselves for the impending run to start, we saw the sudden emergence of Kacang Panjang, 4896 and Super 96 who had just completed laying the paper trail of 10 km which took them 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete with a recce by car the previous day.

It was at 6.02 pm that the run was flagged off by JM Killer Tony. Participated by some 30 hashers, the run was led by a pack of avid runners such as Ranger, Dr. Pandyarajah, Gary, Pramjit Singh, Utom Singh, Nanda, Gobal, Khoo Ka, Soh, Amba and Speedy Gonzales. As oldies of 67 years old who has been hashing for 38 years and whose main object was to complete the run without stopping, I just took my own sweet time running leisurely at my own pace.

The run led north on a broad gravel road into an oil palm plantation. It then went upslope a few minutes later and continued to lead northward for another some 5 minutes before turning left westward. It was then that I was overtaken by Khoo Ka, Govind and Gobal and had overtaken Utom Singh and Pramjit Singh and began losing sights of the avid front-runners such as Ranger and Dr. Pandyarajah. It was some 15 minutes later at Km 4 that I overtook my partner who started the run as early bird at 5.48 pm together with Nancy and Sweetie Pie who were the only 3 harriettes who took part and completed the run. While passing by her, she told me that I was the 11th front-runner which spurred me to move on harder.

The run continued to meandered westward and southward and up and down 2 gentle slopes for another some 2 km before I was over-taken by Tikus, Camel Lok and Water Liu-Liu. It was then that I met Hawaii Goh who was running towards me from the front and told me that he had taken a shortcut from the opposite direction. From then on, the run turned left eastward and continued to meander on the broad gravel road through the oil palm and rubber plantations for another 4 km before arriving back at the run site at 7.11 pm where time keeper Kiasu Lee told me that my time of completing the run was 1 hour 9 minutes and 15 seconds which was recorded by On Sec. Chickadee. On the way at Km 8, I overtook Peter Loi. As time passed by, more runners trickled in. Among them were Nanda, Peter Loi, Vibrator, Rubbish Bui, Orang Kaya Ngoh, Pramjit Singh, ICI Chee, Sweetie Pie, Nancy, Tongkat Ali, Wonder Woman, Albert and Dr. Linkun. The last listed runners who completed the run at 7.31 pm when the sky began to fall dark were Tongkat Ali and my partner Wonder Woman.

It was an enjoyable 10 Km Run on well-laid comfortable virgin running trail on broad, gentle and windy gravel road through the shady oil palm and rubber plantations. A big salute to those who have taken part and completed the run!

In the absence of GM Cocker, a short and sweet hash circle was conducted by Speedy Gonzales. As usual, it saw a number of sinners who included the first runner being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at the nearby Soon Fen Restaurant in Cheng. It was well attended with 4 tables fully taken up. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with free-flowing Tiger beer. Another on-downed session for a big number of sinners was conducted jointly by Bombastic and On Sec. Chickadee. The dinner was on the house. It ended at around 10.30 pm when we dispersed with full stomach and fond memory.

See you at my coming joint run with my partner at Air Salak, Bukit Rambai on 22nd June, 2010, fellow hashers!

On! On!
