Rehashed Run No. 1810

Rehashed Run No: 1810; Hare: Au Kait a.k.a. Cocker; Date: 8th September, 2009; Venue: Gapam

Accompanying The Hare To Set His Birthday Run

Time flies. Just a twinkling of an eye, a year has passed since ex-GM Cocker celebrated his last memorable 55th birthday run No.1759 on 9th September, 2008. And it is of no exception this year. Come yesterday, he has celebrated his 56th birthday by setting another memorable run. And as expected, it has attracted a big turnout of some 60 avid hashers who included 18 guests from other hashing chapters. Among them were James Bond, Tikus, Mary Chong and partner Loi, Andy and KY.

It was a fine and cooling Tuesday afternoon. As invited, my partner and I arrived early at the run site which was situated in front of Tiara Golf Club, Gapam where we met Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony after picking up Sexy Chan. Soon after putting up the signboard and equipping ourselves with 2 GPSs, 2 walkie-talkies, stacks of shredded white papers, 3 knives, mobile phones, drinking water and torch lights, we set out to lay the running trail at 3.15 pm led by Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony. The trail led east along the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road for a short distance before turning left northward and upslope into a banana plantation. After some 10 minutes’ walk, the first simple check was set at a T-junction and the first complicated false trail was set a short distance away on the right. Its connecting paper was placed a short distance away on the left of the first check. Understandably, they were set to catch and slow down the FRB (Front Running Bastard) such as GM Dennis the Menace, Ranger, Dr. Pandyarajah, Speedy Gonzales and Govind to be with the slow runners and oldies like my partner and I. What a good idea!

The trail then continued to lead northward in the banana plantation abreast the outer fencing of Tiara Golf Club for some 20 minutes before the second check was placed at another T-junction at its fringe and its second false trail was placed a short distance away eastward abreast a rubber plantation. Similar to the first check and false trail, its connecting paper was placed a short distance away ahead and northward of the second check in a rubber plantation.

The trail then continued to lead northward in the bushy rubber plantation abreast the outer fencing of the said golf club for some 15 minutes before turning right and zigzagging left right and centre across a couple of ditches for another some 1 hour where another 3 more complicated checks and 2 false trails were set before exiting southward into another banana plantation where the 6th and the last check was set at a T-junction. Its connection paper was placed a short distance away on the right. From then on, it was another some 30 minutes zigzagging through the banana plantation and water-melon farm before arriving at the Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road at 5.45 pm where we took a rest to avoid sitting on ice for appearing at the run site before the run started at 6.00 pm. On the way, we met 4 early birds starting their run from the back trail. They were none other then Garfield, Bombastic, Band Boy and Dr. Linkun. We arrived back at the run site at 6.15 pm when the last runner ex-GM Vibrator started his run.

It was a quite a tricky and challenging run of some 9 km which took the hare ex-GM Cocker and co-hare Killer Tony some 2 ½ hours to set without reccee. It took the first runner Ranger some 1 hour to complete closely followed by Dr. Pandyarajah, guest runner Tay, GM Dennis the Menace, Speedy Gonzales, guest runner KY, 4896 and partner Super 96. As time passed by, more runners trickled in. Among them were Vibrator, Chickadee, Albert, Mary Josephine, Helen, Holy, Capt. Tay, Hawaii Goh and Nancy. The last runner who arrived back at 8.15 pm when the sky was dark was Henry accompanied by kind-hearted avid runner Ku Kah. What a great relief to GM Dennis the Menace, as he could not afford to loose the good service of Henry if he is lost!

A short-and-sweet hash circle attended by a small pack of runners was conducted by the ever-industrious GM Dennis the Menace. It saw a few sinners who included the hare and his co-hare being put on-ice and on-downed. It was then announced that the coming week’s hare would be Gracie with its run site at Ayer Keroh – Bemban Road. See you there, fellow hashers!

On On was held at the downtown Hiking Restaurant in Melaka Raya. It was well attended with 5 tables fully occupied. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with 2 bottles of Tiger beer for each table. To add more fun, songs were sang and on-downed sessions were held for the sinners. In addition, a huge birthday cake was presented to the hare and a few other hashers who were born in the month of September. It ended at around 10.30 pm.

It was a good birthday celebration run with good dinner which was on the hare. Thanks and Happy Birthday, Cocker!

On! On!
