Rehashed run 1843 - Chee Cheng Seng 27/04/10

Rehashed Run No: 1843; Hare: Chee Cheng Seng a.k.a. ICI Chee; Date: 27th April, 2010; Venue: Kesang Pajak.

An Enjoyable Tricky Run

Chee Cheng Seng is a devoted hasher whom I first met in 1991 when I joined the MH3. In spite of his tight work schedule, he used to attend the weekly run quite regularly. Come last Tuesday, it was his run on rotation. As expected, it had attracted a turnout of some 30 odd hashers in spite of the long distance of its run site at Kesang Pajak from the Malacca city.

It was a cool Tuesday afternoon after a drizzle. On my early arrival at the run site with my partner, only Dr. Pandyarajah and several cars were seen there. The owners of the other cars belonging to the hare, Kachang Panjang and 4896 must have left the run site earlier to accompany the hare to set the running trail.

It was at 5.10 pm that my partner and I, as oldies and slow runners, started the run as early birds by following the paper which led south on a path into a rubber plantation. After some 25 minutes’ trudge, it turned left across a drain into a young oil palm plantation before hitting the first simple check. A spread-out search led to my partner finding its connecting paper some 100 netres away southward. As usual, to avoid sitting on ice later during the hash circle, we did not join the paper as early birds.

The paper continued to proceed forward across another drain into another oil palm for another some 15 minutes before hitting the first tricky false trail at on a path. Another spread-out search was conducted. It was only some 20 minutes later that I found it on a path beside an oil palm tree some 150 metres away on the right westward of the back trail. By then we were being caught up by a few scheduled runners comprising of Kiasu Lee, SYT, Hawaii Goh, Nancy and Camel Lok.

The paper then proceeded forward for some 10 minutes before hitting the second simple check at a T-junction. Its connecting paper was found by my partner a short distance ahead a few minutes later after a spread-out search.

The paper continued to lead forward across a ditch and turned northward for another 15 minutes before hitting the second tricky false trail upslope on a small hill. By then we were joined by a bigger pack of scheduled runners. Among them was our new GM Cocker. Another hectic spread-out search was conducted. Surprisingly, its connecting paper was again found by my partner some 10 minutes later in a bushy path some 150 metres away ahead of the back trail.

From then on, it was another some 30 minutes’ meander across 2 ditches through an oil palm and a rubber plantations before arriving back at the run site at 7.25 pm where the front and non runners were enjoying their drinks. On the way, we were being over taken by Kukah. The last 3 runners led by Horlicks were back some 10 minutes later when the sky began to fall dark. In appreciation of our participation, we were each given a toothpaste squeezer present by the hare.

It was an enjoyable tricky medium run of some 8 km at this new run site covered with comfortable terrains of rubber and oil palm plantations. It took us some 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete.

Hash circle was conducted by the new GM Cocker. Like previously, it saw a number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On On was held at the nearby Wen Huat Restaurant in Batu Berenam. A total of 4 tables were taken up. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with drinks. It was followed by another on-downed session for the sinners. The food was partly subsidized by the hare. Thanks. It ended at around 10.00 pm when we dispersed.

See you at the coming joint run of P.H. Tan and Vivian at Gapam, fellow hashers!

On! On!
