Rehashed run 1836 - Agnes Khoo a.k.a. Easy Access

Rehashed Run No: 1836; Hare: Agnes Khoo; Date: 9th March, 2009; Venue: Lendu.

A Tricky And Confusing Run

Agnes Khoo is another faithful hasher who has been a member of MH3 for a long time. However, owing to her tight work schedule, she only attends the weekly run occasionally when time permits. As scheduled on rotation, it was her run on last Tuesday which had attracted a big turnout of some 50 avid hashers.

Lendu is one of the favorite hashing run sites situated some 25 km north on the outskirts of Malacca city. It has a challenging run site with hilly terrains covered with orchard, oil palm and rubber plantations.

It was a cloudy and hot afternoon. Similar to the other weekly runs, it was of no exception this week which saw my partner and I arriving at the run site early looking forward for a good sweat-out rather than banging balls at home. As expected, only 3 cars belonging to the hare and her 3 co-hares namely, Kachang Panjang, 4896 and Super 96 were seen there. Understandably, they must have left early to set the running trail.

Knowing professional co-hare Kachang Panjang who enjoys laying long and tricky run without recce with the use of GPS, my partner and I as oldies and slow walkers decided to start the run as early birds at 5.15 pm after handing our car key to On Cash Horlicks who had just arrived for safe keeping.

The paper led west overlapping some old papers of other hash run on a broad laterite road into a matured oil plantation and meandered right and left up a hill for some 25 minutes before arriving at its top which offers a scenic view of Lendu township and its surroundings a few km away in the north. It then went across a barbed wire fencing down slope into a barren hill for some 100 metres before hitting 2 deep ditches side-by-side which were difficult to cross. As oldies, we chose not to cross them by making a retreat back across the said barbed wire fencing. We then followed the said old papers southward hopping to hit the actual running trail on the way. To our surprise, it was to no avail. As such, for the purpose of avoiding getting lost, we chose to follow the said old paper trail which led us back to the run site at 6.25 pm after 1 hour and 10 minutes walk of some 5 km through a long stretch of undulating path and short stretch of tarred road where only our industrious barman Mah was seen standing by the beer wagon preparing to serve us drinks. On the way, we encountered a big pack of cows looking at us stupid oldies chasing after the paper for no apparent reason. And it was some 10 minutes later that we saw the exit of the hare and her 3 co-hares from the same direction after setting the running trail. According to Kachang Panjang, it took them 2 hours and 15 minutes to set the run of 8 km with 3 checks and 1 false trail.

The first pack of scheduled runners exited at around 7.00 pm. Among them were Baby Elephant, Horlicks and Gilbert who took a shortcut. It was followed some 20 minutes later by avid front runner GM Dennis the Menace who went astray without following the paper after being caught at a complicated check and shouted loudly that it was a fuck-up run which saw co-hare Kachang Panjang smiling widely for being successful in catching him off trail for the first time. As time passed by, more runners trickled in complaining that they were also being caught in a few tricky checks. Among them were Gobal, Carol the Twin Towers, Albert, ICI Chee, Rubbish Bui, Speedy Gonzales, Hawaii Goh, Nancy, Helen Of Troy, SYT, Vibrator, Kukah, Sexy Chan and Killer Tony. The last runners who exited at 8.45 pm after being picked up by Hawaii Goh with his 4WD near the Lendu New Village were avid front runner Govind, Sharp Shooter Robert and 3 guests. They looked exhausted with wet bodies after going astray.

It was a long, tricky and confusing run of some 10 km as assumed by most of the runners which caused all of us to go astray for the first time. However, as hashers we took it as an experience, challenge and fun without any ill feeling. That is what the hashing spirit is.

Hash circle was conducted jointly by GM Dennis the Menace and Vibrator. As usual, it saw a number of sinners who included the hare, co-hares and a few guests being put on ice and on-downed.

The late On In was held at the nearby Soon Feng Restaurant in Cheng. It was well attended with 4 tables fully occupied by the hungry hashers. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with cold beer and drinks. Another lengthy on-downed session with jovial games was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace which saw a big number of sinners being on-downed. The dinner was partly subsidized by the hare. Thanks. It ended at around 11.00 pm when we started to disperse.

It was a memorable run and night. See you at the coming birthday cerebration run of Ex GM Bombastic at Bukit Katil, fellow hashers!

On! On!
