Rehashed run 1836 - Agnes Khoo a.k.a. Easy Access

Rehashed Run No: 1836; Hare: Agnes Khoo; Date: 9th March, 2009; Venue: Lendu.

A Tricky And Confusing Run

Agnes Khoo is another faithful hasher who has been a member of MH3 for a long time. However, owing to her tight work schedule, she only attends the weekly run occasionally when time permits. As scheduled on rotation, it was her run on last Tuesday which had attracted a big turnout of some 50 avid hashers.

Lendu is one of the favorite hashing run sites situated some 25 km north on the outskirts of Malacca city. It has a challenging run site with hilly terrains covered with orchard, oil palm and rubber plantations.

It was a cloudy and hot afternoon. Similar to the other weekly runs, it was of no exception this week which saw my partner and I arriving at the run site early looking forward for a good sweat-out rather than banging balls at home. As expected, only 3 cars belonging to the hare and her 3 co-hares namely, Kachang Panjang, 4896 and Super 96 were seen there. Understandably, they must have left early to set the running trail.

Knowing professional co-hare Kachang Panjang who enjoys laying long and tricky run without recce with the use of GPS, my partner and I as oldies and slow walkers decided to start the run as early birds at 5.15 pm after handing our car key to On Cash Horlicks who had just arrived for safe keeping.

The paper led west overlapping some old papers of other hash run on a broad laterite road into a matured oil plantation and meandered right and left up a hill for some 25 minutes before arriving at its top which offers a scenic view of Lendu township and its surroundings a few km away in the north. It then went across a barbed wire fencing down slope into a barren hill for some 100 metres before hitting 2 deep ditches side-by-side which were difficult to cross. As oldies, we chose not to cross them by making a retreat back across the said barbed wire fencing. We then followed the said old papers southward hopping to hit the actual running trail on the way. To our surprise, it was to no avail. As such, for the purpose of avoiding getting lost, we chose to follow the said old paper trail which led us back to the run site at 6.25 pm after 1 hour and 10 minutes walk of some 5 km through a long stretch of undulating path and short stretch of tarred road where only our industrious barman Mah was seen standing by the beer wagon preparing to serve us drinks. On the way, we encountered a big pack of cows looking at us stupid oldies chasing after the paper for no apparent reason. And it was some 10 minutes later that we saw the exit of the hare and her 3 co-hares from the same direction after setting the running trail. According to Kachang Panjang, it took them 2 hours and 15 minutes to set the run of 8 km with 3 checks and 1 false trail.

The first pack of scheduled runners exited at around 7.00 pm. Among them were Baby Elephant, Horlicks and Gilbert who took a shortcut. It was followed some 20 minutes later by avid front runner GM Dennis the Menace who went astray without following the paper after being caught at a complicated check and shouted loudly that it was a fuck-up run which saw co-hare Kachang Panjang smiling widely for being successful in catching him off trail for the first time. As time passed by, more runners trickled in complaining that they were also being caught in a few tricky checks. Among them were Gobal, Carol the Twin Towers, Albert, ICI Chee, Rubbish Bui, Speedy Gonzales, Hawaii Goh, Nancy, Helen Of Troy, SYT, Vibrator, Kukah, Sexy Chan and Killer Tony. The last runners who exited at 8.45 pm after being picked up by Hawaii Goh with his 4WD near the Lendu New Village were avid front runner Govind, Sharp Shooter Robert and 3 guests. They looked exhausted with wet bodies after going astray.

It was a long, tricky and confusing run of some 10 km as assumed by most of the runners which caused all of us to go astray for the first time. However, as hashers we took it as an experience, challenge and fun without any ill feeling. That is what the hashing spirit is.

Hash circle was conducted jointly by GM Dennis the Menace and Vibrator. As usual, it saw a number of sinners who included the hare, co-hares and a few guests being put on ice and on-downed.

The late On In was held at the nearby Soon Feng Restaurant in Cheng. It was well attended with 4 tables fully occupied by the hungry hashers. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served with cold beer and drinks. Another lengthy on-downed session with jovial games was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace which saw a big number of sinners being on-downed. The dinner was partly subsidized by the hare. Thanks. It ended at around 11.00 pm when we started to disperse.

It was a memorable run and night. See you at the coming birthday cerebration run of Ex GM Bombastic at Bukit Katil, fellow hashers!

On! On!

Rehashed run 1835 - March 2, 2010

Rehashed Run No: 1835; Hare: Crystal How; Date: 2nd March, 2010; Venue: Bertam Ulu.

An Enjoyable Confusing Run

Crystal How is a charming harriet who has been a member of MH3 for a number of years. However, owing to her tight work schedules, she only turns up for the weekly run occasionally when time permits. As scheduled, come last Tuesday was her run on rotation. As expected, it had attracted a fairly big turnout which included a few guests from Orang Hutan Hash.

It was a cloudy and hot afternoon after a long spell of dry season. On my unusual late arrival at the run site at 5.40 pm with my partner, there were already a big pack of hashers there. Among them were Carol the Twin Towers, Killer Tony, SYT, Baby Elephant, Helen Of Troy, 4896, Super 96 and 3 guests from Orang Hutan Hash. They were seen preparing themselves for the impending run which was due to start at 6.00 pm.

As usual, as oldies longing for a good sweat-out, my partner and I started the run as early birds at 5.50 pm. This time, we were being accompanied by SYT and Helen Of Troy. We followed the paper which led north into the Genting Cheng Oil Palm Plantation for some 10 minutes before hitting the first confusing false trail with old papers of other runs near a T-junction in a rubber plantation. A spread-out search was conducted to no avail. It was only some 10 minutes later when we were joined by a few scheduled runners that led to the finding of its connecting paper a short distance away on the right. By then it had disheartened my partner and Helen Of Troy who chose not to accompany me to complete the run by taking a short cut back to the run site.

The paper continued to lead right across a farm house for a short distance for some 5 minutes before turning left into an open undulating open land where I met Sharp Shooter Robert who was making the back trail after sensing that it was going to be a tough run. It then hit 2 deep ditches which needed the assistance of fellow hashers to cross. A short distance ahead, it hit the first complicated check at a T-junction which grouped us together to conduct a spread-out search. Among us were Carol the Twin Towers. Hawaii Goh, Nancy, Holy, Peter Looi, Kiasu Lee, Albert, Camel Lok, 4896, Super 96 and Gabal. It took us some 5 minutes to find its connecting paper a short distance away on the left.

From then on, the paper continued to zigzag left, right and centre through the oil palm plantation, a vegetable farm, a rubber plantation, 2 more deep ditches and 3 more confusing checks before arriving back at the run site at 7.10 pm. As the checks and paper trails were confusing, a big number of us did not follow them by taking a short cut.

It was an enjoyable medium-run of some 7 km. Owing to its confusing nature, it had succeeded in grouping most of the runners together on the running trail. As Helen Of Troy, my partner and I left for our nearby home early to have shower, we did not attend the hash circle.

On In was held at the downtown Malacca Jonker Street Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant which is operated by the hare. It was well attended by some 40 hungry hashers. A 7-course unique delicious Chinese dinner was served with drinks. It was followed by an on-downed session conducted jointly by GM Dennis the Menace, Ex-GM Vibrator and Ex-GM Cocker. It saw a big number of us sinners including myself being on-downed for tripping and falling down while chasing after Carol the Twin Towers during the run in the absence of her partner GM Dennis the Menace and my partner Wonder Woman. A birthday cake was cut for a few of us who included Bombastic and myself who were born in the month of March. It was then announced that Malacca Sunday Hash House Harriers & Harriets would be holding its celebration Run No. 111 at Durian Tunggal at 2.30 pm on 6-3-2010. Hashers were invited to register and attend it. The dinner, which ended at around 10.45 pm, was on the hare. A big thanks!

See you at the coming run of Agnes Khoo at Lendu, fellow hashers!

rehash Chinese New Year 2010 Run - 23/02/10

Hares: Kacang Panjang, 4896, and Super 69
Venue: Bertam Ulu

Typically, festival runs attract a big turnout and the Chinese New Year Run was no different. The majority of the members showed up to welcome in the Year of the Tiger and we had a few guests, Original and Bulldozer from Batu Pahat and King Rat. We all expected a good run and we were not disappointed.

After a thorough warm-up, led by the always working G.M., Dennis the Menace, a search was conducted to determine in which direction the trail began. It took at least 5 minutes of everyone searching before an On On was called - the trail had been found following the road towards the housing settlement.

Hashers were treated to the sight of multiple kites, I counted at least 6, before the trail went into the palm plantation.

Bertam Ulu is an area that is hashed often but each hare seems to be able to give it an unique twist. As an older hasher I was not in the front of the pack. As Speedy passed, he questioned if this was to be a road run. While the first little bit was along the road - it definitely was not a road run.

After turning into the palm plantation we followed the dirt road for a while, mostly uphill, before cutting through the palm plantation. A ditch/ravine had to be crossed. Some hashers went to the right to find another way across. I stayed on paper and was rewarded with a medium size log to cross on. Camel Lok was kind enough to make sure I crossed safely before carrying on.

After crossing the log, the trail ventured up and up and up the hill. The first check was at some point on this hill because all of a sudden the frb's were all within sight, though I didn't see Pandiyarajah ever after the run started. Going up was hard on the leg muscles but I was able to keep up with the majority - going down the hill was a different story.

Luckily, Speedy led the way along one of the palm terraces, rather than going straight down. After a slight downwards turn, the trail led right up another hill. The ridge we climbed reminded me of the spine of a dinosaur. Again we climbed up and up and up. Shortly after we began our downward descent another ditch was encountered. Mary was told she should let her "Wild Woman" out and just swing across. Several hashers went to the left and the right to find a more easily accessable crossing only to decide swinging from the tree was the best option. I was close on GM's heels this time so didn't need any extra assistance. However, his long legs carried him far ahead of me and I was left on my own once again.

The next ditch found Gopal ahead of me. He paused and waited to provide a step down with his foot so I could carry on. Many thanks to the gentleman of MH3 who look after the ladies.

Shortly after, the trail led into a bushy area - cries of stickers to the right and the left were called as we traversed down the hill - trying to bypass all the sticker vines. The main pack left me behind at this point. Pramjit and Kiasu were ahead of me, no one was in sight or sound from behind. After forging through the brush and sticker vines, the trail once again followed a palm track. At this point, Joystick flew by, followed a little later by Sampah Bui.

The trail eventually came out on the flat land with the cars and the beer wagon parked in the distance.

I heard several hashers comment on what a great run it had been. I couldn't tell you the distance or when the FRB came out, though the FRB was Ranger; but, it was a great run. Thank you hares!!! The circle began around 7:30 with the guests being on-downed as well as various sinners.

The ON IN was held at Soon Hock in Cheng. A mat saleh God of Prosperity (usually known as GM, Dennis the Menace) created quite a sight passing out ang pows. Lucky draws were held for hampers as well as a variety of sexy red undergarments. Five tables of hashers enjoyed the good food and fellowship. Super 69 and Horlicks contributed dishes for the festivities, all delicious, I might add. Everyone also received a beautiful red insulated mug to commemorate the event and to keep our icy cold Tiger frosty.

Many thanks to the organizing chair, Chickadee, and all the Chinese members for putting on such a good party.

GONG XI FA CAI!!!!

On On!
