An Enjoyable Medium Run


Gapam is a popular hashing run site situated some 20 km east of Malacca city. As told by professional co-hare Kacang Panjang during our last Sunday run with Malacca Sunday Hash House Harriers And Harriets (MSH4), my partner and I arrived at the same run site early after picking up Sexy Chan. Not surprisingly, only 2 cars belonging to the hare and his co-hare were seen there. Understandably, they must have left earlier to set the running trail which we were told would be similar to the last MSH4 run 2 days ago which was a long run of some 10 km which took us 2 ½ hours to complete.


As usual, as oldies and slow runners who did not want to be left behind and get lost, my partner and I started the run at 5.15 pm leaving behind Sexy Chan who wanted to wait for Killer Tony. The paper headed northeast on a laterite road into a bushy secondary jungle for some 20 minutes before arriving at an oil palm plantation where it turned right at a T-junction. Knowing that it would lead to the first check similar to the last run, we did not follow it but went straight northward where we found its connecting paper some 100 metres ahead.


The paper continued to proceed northward in the oil palm plantation for another 10 minutes before hitting the second check on the right of the second T-junction. Similar to the previous check, we did not conduct a spread-out search but proceeded straight northward where we found its connecting paper another some 100 metres ahead.


The paper then continued to proceed northward through the underpass of the North – South Express Way for another some 20 minutes before hitting the third similar check at another T-junction at the end of the said oil palm plantation and Bemban – Kesang Road. Similar to the previous check, we did not conduct a spread-out search again but turned left for a few metres along the said road and then turned left again southward into the said oil palm plantation for some 200 metres where we found its connecting paper.


The paper continued to lead southward similar to the previous run for another some 15 minutes before hitting the fourth and last changed check at a cross junction. Thinking that its connecting paper was similarly placed with the previous run, we headed straight westward. After walking for some 200 metres without finding it, we conducted a spread-out search. It was only some 10 minutes later that we were guided to it after meeting SCB Pramjit Singh, Horlick and Killer Tony coming on-trail from the opposite direction. From then on, it was another some 40-minute stroll southward meandering through the rubber plantation, across a small stream, the underpass of North – South Express Way and a bushy shrub on a long stretch of an abandoned tarred road before arriving back at the run site at 7.10 pm when the sky began to fall dark and a number of SCB and non runners were socializing and enjoying their drinks. Among them was non-runner GM Dennis the Menace who arrived late after work. He looked worry after failing to see his beloved partner, Carol the Twin Towers, around. Luckily she exited a little while later together with a few last runners which made him smiling broadly.


It was an enjoyable medium run of some 8 km through flat terrains. The first scheduled runner Alistair was back at 7.10 pm followed by a few last runners some 20 minutes later when the sky began to fall dark.


A short and sweet hash circle was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. It saw a few sinners being put on ice and on-downed.


On On was held at the Hiking Restaurant in downtown Melaka Raya. It was attended by some 40 hashers who included a few guests. A delicious Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was conducted for a number of sinners who included the hare and the guests. The dinner was on the hare. Thanks.
