Rehashed run 1829 - Ranger

Rehashed Run No: 1829; Hare: Tan Yen Lye (Ranger); Date: 19th January, 2010; Venue: Semabok.

An Enjoyable Road Run

Ranger is a young and avid hasher whom I have known since mid 1990s when he first joined the Malacca Hash House Harriers. An energetic front-runner, he used to attend the weekly run regularly come rain or shine.

Come last Tuesday, it was his turn as hare of our weekly run on rotation. As expected, it had attracted a big turnout of some 45 hashers who included 10 guest runners from other hashing chapters.

Semabok is a fast developing township southeast of Malacca city. It is a virgin run site on flat terrain across a couple of villages and new housing estates which the majority of MH3 hashers have ever attended.

It was a cool afternoon. As usual, my partner and I were the first early birds to arrive at this virgin run site which is situated in a new housing estate by the side of AMJ Highway. Very soon, we were joined by On Cash Horlicks.

As usual, looking forward for a good sweat-out at this new run site, my partner and I started the run as early birds at 5.25 pm by following the paper which led east into a village across a village, a Chinese temple and a Chinese school on flat tarred-road for some 15 minutes before hitting the first simple check at T-junction in a housing estate. A spread-out search led to my partner finding its connecting paper s short while later some 20 metres on the left. As early birds, we did not join the paper.

The paper continued to lead eastward through another village for another some 15 minutes before hitting the second simple check at another T-junction. On the way, we were being caught up by another early bird, Dirk Limann who said that he had cycled at the same run site in the morning on the same day. Another spread-out search let him to finding its connecting paper on the right southward a short while later some 100 metres away.

The paper continued to proceed southward into an oil palm plantation for a short distance before turning left along a river and across a bridge where it hit a complicated false trail at a housing estate near Hawaii Goh’s house. On the way, we met his other half Nancy walking alone from the opposite direction. After enquiring from some construction workers, we found the connecting paper some 100 metres away on the left northward. It was then that we met a pack of runners joining us from the left. Among them were Hawaii Goh, SYT, Helen of Troy and Nancy who was told to make a U-turn.

The paper then proceeded along a river, across a bridge and a motorway for another some 15 minutes before hitting the second and last false trail at a tarred road. On the way we were being caught up by the first scheduled runner Dr. Pandyarajah followed closely by Govind, Nanda, Camel Lok, Albert, Super 96, Kiasu Lee and hare Ranger who took another run after setting the trail in the morning with co-hare Tikus. From then on, it was another some 20 minutes run on the flat tarred-road through another village along a river before arriving back at the run site at 7.00 pm where a big pack of front and non runners were enjoying their drinks around the beer wagon.

It was an enjoyable medium run of some 7 km on a long stretch of flat-tarred road and short stretch of laterite road across a few villages, 2 housing estates and a small oil palm plantation. The last runners were back at around 7.20 pm. Among them were Kukah, Carol the Twin Towers, Henry and long-lost Vibrator.

Hash circle was well attended. It was conducted by ex GM Cocker due to the tiredness of GM Dennis the Menace who did not attend the run but arrived late to be with us to enjoy the cold beer after his hard-day’s work. As usual, it saw a big number of sinners being put on ice and on-downed.

On In was held at the nearby downtown hawker centre beside the Bukit Cina Chinese cemetery. It was well attended with 5 tables fully occupied. A delicious 6-course Chinese dinner was served. Another on-downed session was held for the sinners. This time it was conducted by GM Dennis the Menace. The dinner was on the hare. Thanks. It was at 10.30 pm that we started to disperse.

See you at the coming run of Dr. Davekumar and Kemmy Chua at Air Keroh – Bemban Road, Bemban, fellow hashers!

On! On!
