rehash run and circle 1803

Run 1803 21/07/09

Hare: Sampah Bui

Runsite – Bertam Indah

This run was much anticipated as I had previously experienced a fine track here with Orangutan Hash, and Sampah Bui has a reputation for setting a challenging trail. As expected the run commenced by climbing into the natural forest to the north of town. Govind took the early lead and proceeded to disappear ahead of the trailing pack. The trail meandered through the bush before eventually crossing the utility right of way. Mr. and Mrs. Hawaii had gone in as early birds and were caught by the front pack at this point.

The track followed the power line right of way for about ½ km before the hare slowed the pack by dead ending the right hand trail and switching to the left track. Leaving the right of way and turning back into the bush, the front pack of about 15 runners bunched up and continued on through the bush on a virgin path as Ranger, (late as usual) passed by. The next check was a stunner. The trail ended abruptly in the bush after a steep ascent. The pack spread out and began to search. Eventually on – on was sounded by two sweet Harriet voices, (suspected to be early birds Helen of Troy and SYT). The run headed back down then up and up and up through some uncut forest. Helen and Holly appreciated the nice view they had as the front runners showed their physique as they passed by.

After much sweating and swearing, the pack eventually emerged at an oil palm. Shortly thereafter, Drug Buster, Wonder Woman, and Chickadee (more early birds) were encountered returning from a sneaky false down trail. The pack then headed uphill for a short distance before the trail turned back down. After this point, the main pack hung back, letting Super Scout Ranger, go down and sniff out the trail, as most suspected another dodge from the hare. Ranger shouted an encouraging on-on and the pack headed down through the palms plantation before emerging at the mowed utility right of way.

From there it was a 2-3 mile, up and down journey back to Taman Indah. About ¼ km from the finish, the vanished Govind was sighted, the first anyone had seen of him since he went into the bush as the FRB.

Back at the entry, all congratulated the co-hare, (Kacang Panjung) for laying a new and challenging run. The hare, Sampah Bui, was apparently a no recee bastard who couldn’t even find his own trail after arriving late and was punished accordingly.

Circle started around 7:30, as we once again waited for Vibrator. The old Vibrator’s mantra of arriving late and finishing early seems to have slipped into arriving late and finishing late. Gilbert was the first sinner iced. He was punished for being too quiet with his music. He was told to be bold and play his guitar right beside the beer wagon so all could enjoy. Gilbert then led the group in singing the “Tuesday hash doe – ray – me” song. Everyone sang loudly although I suspect quite a few folks don’t know any of the words. Tony was the next one called to the front. Tony has been caught for being a SCB for the past few weeks. He claims this is because his foot was injured. He made the mistake of telling the GM that his foot was just fine now and still was caught SCBing by Dennis the Menace himself. Tony finally admitted that he was just plain LAZY.

Bui’s guest, Esther, was called forward. Alas for all the guys, she is married. She works as a sales consultant for the college where Bui teaches. Bui was caught by the On Tune and had to sit on ice, (this was the first of many times for Bui). Josephine was caught for not having a tee shirt even though this was the third time she has been hashing. Kacang Panjung helped cool her down by dousing her with a bottle of cold water. We had two old MH3 members back visiting; Oilman Lim and Nelson. It was really good to see them again and get a chance to visit. I am sure they enjoyed the chance to sit on ice once again.

Mr. Cheng, Loh Tian Luk, was caught sitting outside the circle and NOT participating. He repeated, “No, can not” when asked to sit on ice. He still had to sit. He was informed that even though he was a very important person, busy, busy, busy, and on the phone conducting business; hash was just as important!! For this sin he had two bottles of water poured on his head by non other than Horlicks and Dennis the Menace. (Dennis had to eat his words and on down a beer at the On on for the very same crime.) Ederjit was accused of being a busy body and looking at everyone else and not singing.

A short commercial break announcing the Batu Phahat Full Moon inaugural run on Friday, 7 Aug., rm 30 damages, was made. This was followed by the gifting of a shirt from the Cambridge Harriers to the GM by John Marshall. John had just returned from spending the past 9 weeks in England. He passed on an invitation to run with this group if we are ever in the area. They run on Sunday’s at 11:00. The early start is due to the amount of daylight during the winter. Dennis had to sit on ice while the presentation was made. Hawaii Goh was concerned he might still be too hot and was kind enough to pour two ice cold bottles of water on him.

The committee decided at the past meeting that subscriptions would be paid quarterly so Horlicks could participate in the runs. Ranger, either had not heard or failed to remember, so he was punished for being a cheapskate and only paying one month at a time. GM offered to buy a beer to any member who paid for a full year. Ranger also got a cold bath. Dr. Iqbal was called up for never making it to the run on time, even though there was a time in the past that he was always on time and able to complete the entire run, no problem. Vibrator was iced for having “piss poor planning” and being unable to ever make it to the runsite on time. He claimed he was just serving as the official sweeper which the rest of the group felt was a good come back but he was already on ice.

Long Bean was next up. He was one of the co-hares for the run and has a reputation of being a “great hare” and this was true of today’s run. GM did mention that even Long Bean occasionally has issues, recalling the recent run where he managed to lose the rest of the hares. Next week’s hare is Mother Theresa. She announced that her run would be at Bemban/Air Panas. Mr. Potato was called up for talking, talking, talking; private party and not listening to where the location for next week’s run was. He received a beer to drink and two bottles of water poured over him. John was iced because he had complained about how hot it was over here compared to England so we helped cool him down. Bui was called up again for not laying his own run.

Speedy came to the box and called upon Govind, only Govind was no where to be found, so a Govind look alike was called up; Gary a.k.a Joystick. (Evelyn did not see the resemblance at all!) The story had something to do with front runners who sometimes call on on and more often don’t. I am not real sure as to how Govind fits into it all but I believe that one of the two was calling on on when there wasn’t a need. About this time Ranger started sputtering so he was put on ice. It seems that Ranger, who usually never joins the paper and calls on on, made a big show of telling the other FRB’s to continue on, that he was joining the paper. Bui was called up for a final on down for being one of the few members who has actually been bit by a snake, yet selecting a site where snakes might be plentiful, and failing to complete his own run.

Bui announced that the On on would be at Xiang Hao, in Cheng, across from the Petronas station. There we had 5 full tables, including quite a few regular members who had not made it to the runsite. People didn’t begin to leave until after 10:30 and I have been told that some stayed and partied until after 1:00 a.m. What a night!!!
