rehash run 1801 July 7, 2009
Reshashed Run No: 1801; Hares: Hawaii Goh & Nancy Low; Date: 7th July, 2009; Venue: Pantai Belimbing.
An Unexpected Leisure Run
Pantai Belimbing is a challenging hilly run-site situated some 20 km east of Malacca city. It is popular among the avid Malaccan hashers. Owing to its tough hilly terrains, a mere mention of it will make most of our balls shrinking. In spite if that, it does not deter us from taking the challenge.
It was a cool Tuesday afternoon after an early morning downpour. As usual, looking forward for a good sweat-out and fellowship, my partner and I arrived at the run-site early. Not surprisingly, only the hares’ car was found there. Understandably, they must have gone in earlier to set the running trail. A little while later, we were joined by Dr. Pandiyarajah and guests Looi, Mary Chong and Ah Cheng from Malacca Sunday Hash House Harriers & Harrittes. Dr. Pandiyarajah, an energetic front-runner, was said to have a leg pain.
It was at 5.20 pm that the 6 of us started the run as early birds by following the paper which led north into a rubber plantation on a broad laterite road. It then turned left upslope on reaching the Mega Quarry some 15 minutes later. Surprisingly, instead of turning left uphill to our normal tough and hilly running trail a few minutes latter, it went down slope into an oil palm plantation. After zigzagging for another some 15 minutes, it hit the first simple check at a cross junction. A spread-out search led to the finding of its connecting paper by Dr. Pandiyarajah some 100 metres ahead a short while later. As usual, as early birds, we did not join the paper.
The paper continued to zigzag left, right and centre through the oil palm plantation for another some 20 minutes before hitting the second simple check at another cross junction. Like the first check, it was found by Dr. Pandiyarajah again some 100 metres ahead a few minutes later.
The paper hit the third and last simple check at a slope after another some 15 minutes of tracking through the friendly oil palm plantation. It was found by me some 100 metres ahead on the back trail. From then on, it was another some 50 minutes of winding tracking through a fruit plantation, another oil palm plantation and across 2 quarries, a few farm houses and 2 mild slopes abreast the North South Expressway before arriving back at the run-site at 7.20 pm where a big pack of front and non runners were enjoying their drinks and rambutan. On the way, we were being overtaken by Kacang Panjang, 4896 (Si Peh Kow Lat) and his partner, GM Dennis The Menace, Ranger, Speedy Gonzales, Utom Singh, Denial Lok, SYT, Theresa, Chee Ching Seng, Carol The Twin Towers and a few guest runners. As time passed by, more runners trickled in. The last runner was back at 7.40 pm when the sky began to fall dark. He was none other than Kiasu Lee!
It was an unexpected enjoyable leisure run of some 8 to 9 km through the friendly flat terrains of shady rubber, oil palm and fruit plantations bypassing a couple of tough hills which the hares had carried out 2 recces with 4 co-hares. Well done, hares!
Hash circle was well-attended. It was conducted by none other than our new GM Dennis The Menace. As usual, it saw a big pack of sinners who were made up of front runners, guests, the hares, co-hares and GM Dennis The Menace himself being put on ice and on-downed.
On On was held at the ever-popular Soon Feng Restaurant in Cheng. It was well-attended with 5 tables. A 6-course delicious Chinese dinner was served and a birthday cake was cut for a few hashers who were born in July. It was followed by another on-down session for the sinners. And it was only at around 10.30 pm that we began to break.
It was a good run and good dinner. The food was on the hares. Thanks!
On! On!

Circle write up
Hawaii and Nancy had a good turn out for their run, especially since Full Moon was also running that night. Utom was the only Indian present. YEAH UTOM!!!
Circle began with the Hash Doe, Ray, Me song. The first victim was the guest who had come the farthest, Paulie - a mat salleh from Dublin, Ireland that Orang Kaya had brought. The On Tune, the little gold statue, spied several hashers not singing. Dr. Iqbal was the first followed by James Kuah. Samantha, a medical student that Hendry had brought was the next victim. Debbie’s daughter, Sue, was called as a guest but she argued that she had sat on the ice last week so she was no longer a first timer. The GM agreed she was free to go but Mom needed to take her place. Debbie said that she knew her son would be honored to take her place so Yang sat on the ice. He described the run as annoying, tiring, and a pain as he had injured his foot. Debbie cautioned him to make sure he drank slow. Family, you gotta love’em.
Lee Sen Fatt was the next one iced as the last runner. He was accused of going slowly in order to, “better enjoy the scenery”!!! We had a large turnout of Sunday hashers who came to support Hawaii Goh so their GM, Ali Baba, was the next to be on downed. Doris was charged with being an expert in manipulating hairy balls so of course James had to mouth off about that. Joystick, otherwise known as Gary Tan, was punished for being the FRB. It wouldn’t be Tuesday if Chickadee wasn’t on ice for something, her crime – not arriving until 7:00. She argued that Speedy made her late??????????
Next week’s hares were on downed, Simon and Maureen, though Simon was the only one who stepped up to be recognized. (Maureen paid for hanging back at the On In.) Bui, of all people, was caught not singing by On Tune, than the GM was caught by the On Tune. His defense was the song was in Chinese and he did not know the words. It didn’t wash with the crowd. Then he attempted to put next week’s hare on ice AGAIN so was iced a 2nd time. Ranger was the last to be brought forward; his charge – mouthing off, what else. He got the privilege of having Sambuca poured down his throat by Speedy and Chickadee.
Circle closed with a cheer for Hawaii and Nancy for a great run, they had recc’d 3 times.
